The Banker magazine names Drucker’s ‘The Practice of Management’ one of the top three business titles of all time

The Banker, a top industry magazine from Financial Times Ltd., has named Peter F. Drucker’s 1954 classic The Practice of Management as one of the three books that have had “the most impact on business and finance” throughout history.

Drucker’s work was listed third, just behind the No. 1 selection, John Kenneth Galbraith’s A Short History of Financial Euphoria, and the No. 2 pick, The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.

The list from The Banker, published in its January 2008 issue, features a single quotation from each selection in the Top 10. Drucker’s is: “Our people are our most important asset.”

“Being on this list is a wonderful tribute,” said Rick Wartzman, director of the Drucker Institute. “And given Peter’s humanistic philosophy, the quote that was picked is just perfect. It goes right to the heart of what he was all about.”

Rounding out The Banker list are The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, The Borderless World by Kenichi Ohmae, Beyond Certainty by Charles Handy, The Art of War by Sun Tzu, The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith, Jack: Straight from the Gut by Jack Welch, and The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli.

Wartzman pointed out that Charles Handy will be visiting the Drucker Institute and the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management as a scholar in residence in January and February.
