Drucker Institute a Model of Leadership Succession
The Drucker Institute’s approach to leadership succession has been featured as a model in “Making Founder Successions Work,” the Stanford Social Innovation Review article by Jari Tuomala, Donald Yeh and Katie Smith Milway, of The Bridgespan Group.
The authors write that conventional wisdom sees a ‘clean break’ as the best way to transition a founder. Yet their research suggests otherwise. Many nonprofits benefit when they carefully plan an extended role for founders who step down, and surprisingly, transitions that extend the role of the founder—as the Drucker Institute has done—yield the best results.
