The Peter Drucker Innovation Graduate Student Scholarship

Award amount: $10,000 to $25,000 depending on availability of funds and qualifications of the applicants.

Peter Drucker argued that what defines an entrepreneur is their attitude to change: “the entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it and exploits it as an opportunity.” To exploit change, according to Drucker, is to innovate. Emphasizing the importance of low-tech
entrepreneurship, the challenge of balancing technological possibilities with limited resources, and the organization as a learning organism, he concludes with a vision of an entrepreneurial society where individuals increasingly take responsibility for their own learning and careers.

Eligibility:

  • All applicants must be currently enrolled students in good standing at Claremont Graduate University.

Successful Applicants:

  • must agree to allow the Drucker Institute to share/publicize information regarding amount, project and recipient(s).
  • will receive a copy of Peter F. Drucker, 2014. Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Hoboken: Taylor and Francis.
  • must agree to present their current work in progress in the fall semester to a workshop hosted by the Drucker Institute; and in the spring semester to reflect on Drucker’s ideas on innovation and entrepreneurship. Awarded annually to a student or students showing promise as an innovator in their field.

Application:

To apply students must submit the following:

  • A letter of application that provides your educational and work background, field of study, and a 300-word description of your innovative project that merits support by the Drucker Institute. The project may take various forms such as, research focused, transdisciplinary, industry-oriented, community-based, or policy-focused.
  • Projects that connect with the work of Peter Drucker, the Drucker Institute are especially welcomed.

Application Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than August 1 of each year.

Conditions of the Award:

  1. The award will be disbursed by September 30th in the fall semester and February 1 st in the Spring semester, in equal installments, upon verification of full-time enrollment.
  2. The scholarship will be deposited in the awardee’s student account; if there is an outstanding balance, the balance will be paid, and the remainder will be available for withdraw and use as the awardee chooses.
